NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – Maranie Rae, Pittsburgh-based photographer, journalist and human rights advocate, will feature her works in Penn State New Kensington’s Art Gallery from April 9 through April 29. The exhibit is free and open to the public. The photographer will also hold two lectures on April 9.

Rae will be sharing photographs from a trip to the Middle East where she documented the ongoing Syrian refugee crisis. Syria is the 2017-2018 Country of Focus at the New Kensington campus.

To date, Rae’s work has also taken her around the globe to destinations throughout Eastern and Western Europe and Africa, as well as her most recent travels to Vietnam. The goal of her work is to focus on people, especially those in marginalized parts of society to dispel misconceptions, underline humanity and understand the world.

In addition to her gallery exhibit, Rae will host a photo discussion on April 9 from 12:10 – 1:10 p.m (Common Hour) in the Art Gallery. The afternoon discussion is free and open to the public.

That same day, Rae will be the featured guest and speaker at a campus “Dinner and Dialogue” session from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., also in the campus Art Gallery. Members of the campus community are kindly asked to RSVP for the Dinner and Dialogue event by contacting Theresa Bonk, director of student affairs, at 724-334-6061 or [email protected].

Rae has been a full-time, independent photographer since 2015, and her work has been featured in Esquire, CNN, Huffington Post, Mashable and numerous Pittsburgh-based newspapers and magazines. For more information about Rae and her work, visit www.maranierae.com.
