What is Kids in College?

Penn State New Kensington offers a variety of week-long summer camps for elementary, middle school, and high school students. These programs, better known as Kids in College, are designed to be both educational and fun!


We are excited to provide a wide variety of fun and immersive Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) summer camps for youth in grades 1 through 12.   Our schedule for this summer is listed below.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions. 

Registrations will begin online April 2, 2018

Chess Wars Overboard

     Learn the basics or challenge yourself during chess wars

Fly Fishing

     Learn casting techniques and how to tie flies.  Field trip scheduled for
     Thursday (weather permitting)

Art Studio Sampler 

     Join Katie's Clay Studio to learn various art techniques such as glass
     fusion, canvas, wood art and pottery. (Some items will need to be 
     picked up at a later date)

Mad Science:  Fizz, Boom, Bang

     Shake up a flask of fun in the lab as a junior chemist!  This program is
     packed solid with cool reactions.

Intro to Animation

     Create short films and learn the animation process.

SAT Prep Course 

     Note: 5-day Class July 9-13   Practice strategies, test criteria, dealing 
     with test anxiety and additional resources.

Red Hot Robots (Robotics kit included) 

     Discover the science of circuits and how robots use sensors to explore
     things around them.  Build your own robot to take home with you!

Coding Camp 

     Improve your computer programming skills in Scratch, Kodable,
     LiteBot Code.org

Photography Foundations  

      How does a camera work?  Learn what makes an eye-catching
      photo. Campers must bring their own camera or smartphone/iPad
      as a part of the course.

     Work in teams and program VEX robots to complete various challenges.

Snapology: Awesome Adventure Robotics

     Work in teams to build and program your models, such as giants, Soccer layers,
     and boats, for a fun adventure.

Grades 1 to 3

     Learn the basics of how a rocket is made.

     This hands-on camp is all about mixed media design such as dyeing, painting
     and working with clay.

     Calling all gamers! Have fun creating robotic games while learning about robotics.

     Learn to design your very own online game that can be shared with friends and family.

Climate Out of this World

     Campers investigate how life would be on another planet by doing experiments,
     dissections and more.

The Book Club

     Read and analyze some of John Green's books such as Paper Towns, and
     Fault in Our Stars.

Lights, Camera, Action

     Learn what it takes to be the director, the editor and the star of your very own movie!
