NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — Penn State New Kensington alumni and friends can summon their inner Andy Warhol at the “Paint ‘n Sip” creative art social from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, in the campus Art Gallery.

The latest national trend makes art fun and accessible to amateur artists. The event is designed to inspire friends and family to let loose their brush in a communal setting where participants are encouraged to paint, eat, drink and socialize. No previous art experience is required. If Warhol can paint a Campbell’s soup can, fledgling van Goghs can create a masterpiece out of any theme without losing an ear.

At the beginning of the social, the group will vote on one of four sample paintings — moonlit tree, autumn leaf, owl, or pumpkin patch — that will be used as the featured painting.

The art instructor will guide participants through the step-by-step process, while encouraging individuality. By using a variety of color, paintings can reflect their owner's creativity.

At the end of the evening, the budding artists will take home a 16-inch-by-20-inch acrylic painting on canvas, which can be framed and hung in the family room or boxed and wrapped for an unsuspecting relative at a white elephant gift exchange party.

The cost is $45 and includes all art supplies and instruction, as well as beverages and light fare. Seating is limited. The registration deadline is Sept. 16. To RSVP and vote on the featured painting, contact Tina Sluss at 724-334-6056 or [email protected]

A portion of the proceeds is earmarked for the Cultural Arts Fund, which was established by Chancellor Kevin Snider to enhance student learning and improve campus aesthetics through visual arts.
