UPPER BURRELL, Pa. — Fermented grapes aficionados can get free tastings of new vintages at a winery. Hops enthusiasts can get free tastings of new IPAs at a brewery. Higher education seekers can get free tastings of college life at Penn State New Kensington.

Traditional students, adult learners and veterans can see if the campus matches their taste buds at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 24, during the “Spend a Summer Day” admissions event. Participants will meet staff and current students, and find out all they need to know about admissions, financial aid and student life. Students and their families can tour the campus, and lunch is provided.

Those who can't make the June weekend event will have an opportunity during the summer to spend an August evening on campus. The program is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10. The content is the same as the morning event, including a campus tour and refreshments.

Students transferring to the campus from other institutions can make individual appointments to review the campus’ admissions process at “Transfer Tuesday” from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on June 27. Prospective Penn Staters can learn about the admissions process, financial aid and degree programs. Those who bring post-secondary transcripts to the appointment will receive a preliminary review of transfer credits.

Participants in any event qualify for a waiver of the $65 admissions application fee. To reserve a spot for any of the days, call the admissions office at 724-334-LION or 888-968-PAWS.
