Renowned pianist Tom Roberts brings his silent film festival to Penn State New Kensington on Nov. 28. Roberts composed new scores for Charlie Chaplin film, including the two that will be shown at the campus: "The Rink" and "The Pawn Shop." The composer will perform and narrate the movies and be joined by Mary Beth Malek, clarinetist.

Renowned pianist and composer brings new life to Chaplin films

Pianist Tom Roberts has performed on the “Tonight Show with Johnny Carson,” arranged music for a number of jazz artists such as Wynton Marsalis, and arranged and performed music for Martin Scorsese’s “The Aviator,” among others. One of his more recent passions includes composing original scores for silent films starring Charlie Chaplin, two of which he will bring to Penn State New Kensington at 7 p.m. on Nov. 28 in the Forum Theatre.

Barynya Russian dance and music ensemble

Penn State New Kensington students, staff and faculty, along with members of the local community, enjoyed a performance by Barynya, a world-renowned Russian dance, music and song ensemble, on Nov. 7. The group has performed in many prestigious cultural venues across the U.S. and world and was featured on NBC's "Superstars of Dance." The performance was part of the campus' Country of Focus program, which aims to provide students an opportunity to learn more about international culture and becoming world citizens.

"Drumming at Kiski," a watercolor painting by Patti Giordano, hangs in the Penn State New Kensington Art Gallery. The painting and other works from members of the New Kensington Camera Club and the Allegheny Valley League of Artists are featured in the gallery's Nov. exhibit, "The Art of Music."
