Hey, Plum Mustangs!

A world-class education awaits you at Penn State New Kensington, and we’re right in your backyard!  Our quiet, 70-acre campus is located only 8 miles away on Route 780 in Upper Burrell Township.

We've seen the great things that Plum students -- like Marissa -- can do with a Penn State education.

Spotlight on Plum High School grad Marissa Russo

Marissa Russo

Plum High School:  Class of 2012

Penn State University:  Class of 2016

Major:  B.S. in Information Sciences & Technology

Career:  Technology Consultant for the enterprise resource planning software SAP

Employer:  PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers), one of the Big Four auditors

According to Marissa, "I chose Penn State New Kensington because it was close to home but still provided the education I really wanted. The faculty prepared me for the job I'm doing today, with their curriculum pertaining to real world issues and how to think about solving them. My favorite part was the leadership opportunities I received, which I know put me on the right path to the career I am in today."

But Marissa didn't just go to go class and go home.

Marissa was active in several campus clubs, including student government and Lion Ambassadors.  She was also committed to serving others, so she found ways to do that, too.  In fact, during her time with us, Marissa organized a backpack drive for local youth and a second-chance prom for senior citizens living at a local nursing home -- most of whom were unable to attend their first high school prom due to the war.

She was a dedicated student of the world which eventually took her to Ireland to study abroad for a semester.

"Studying abroad was the single best thing I had ever done. It was the greatest experience of my life, and I would recommend it to everyone.  Penn State New Kensington taught me to open my eyes, think, and work through the differences."
