Excellence in Teaching Award

Each year, students and other members of the Penn State New Kensington community nominate outstanding faculty for the Excellence in Teaching Award in recognition of their high-quality teaching at the campus. From these nominations, a committee of students, previous award recipients, and the Director of Academic Affairs (as a non-voting member) select one full-time and one part-time faculty member to receive the award. It is one of the highest honors a faculty member can receive from the campus.

Criteria and Eligibility

The principal criterion is excellent classroom performance including teaching methods, techniques or activities. Excellence in other activities such as advising, supervision of learning outside the classroom, and course development are also considered.

Full-time faculty members who have completed one year of teaching at the New Kensington campus. Part-time faculty members who have taught two or more semesters at the New Kensington campus. Nominees must not have received this award during the previous five years. Previous recipients are listed below.

Who can nominate and how

Nominations will be accepted from:

  • Penn State students with second semester standing or higher who have completed at least one semester at New Kensington
  • New Kensington Faculty members
  • New Kensington Full-time Staff members
  • To nominate a faculty member, fill out the form below.

Staff Awards

The staff awards were developed to recognize New Kensington staff members who have made a valuable and much appreciated impact. To nominate a full-time staff member for one of the awards below, submit a nomination form below on his or her behalf. Forms can be submitted annually between February 1 through March 15.

Service to New Kensington Campus

This award will recognize a staff member who demonstrates a pattern of extraordinary dedication and goes above and beyond their assigned job responsibilities in an effort to serve the needs of members of the New Kensington campus.

Service to Students

This award will recognize a staff member who promotes a consistent student-centered learning environment while fostering a positive student experience. The staff member will also provide excellent service towards students and contribute a holistic development of students both personally and professionally.
