Accounting Option

Overview

The Accounting Option is ideal for students interested in careers within business services, particularly in the financial sector. This program equips students not only with specialized accounting skills but also with essential business knowledge in management and marketing. Graduates emerge well-rounded and competitive in the job market.

Program Highlights

Our professionally oriented, four-year curriculum prepares students to thrive in dynamic workplaces. Rather than studying outdated case studies, students tackle real-world challenges, mastering financial data analysis, critical thinking, and effective communication skills.

Who Should Choose This Option?

The Accounting Option welcomes high school graduates, adult learners, and transfer students seeking robust foundational education in mathematics and economics. Upper-division courses include Business Logistics Management, Accounting Information Systems, and Principles of Taxation, complemented by internships offering practical experience with local corporations, small businesses, and nonprofits.

Career Opportunities

Because accountants are essential to an organization’s financial health, they continue to be in demand. The hiring outlook is positive in the Pittsburgh region and beyond, with employment in accounting and auditing expected to grow faster than average over the next several years.

Graduates are prepared for diverse career paths, including:

  • Accountants
  • Underwriters
  • Business analysts
  • Auditors

Through coursework, internships, and research, students gain readiness for roles across banking, government, nonprofits, retail, and financial services sectors.
