Students Present Research at the Annual Meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association

Psychology

Update: Penn State New Kensington is not currently enrolling new students. Current students can access academic advising and degree planning through campus services.

Overview

Our degree program provides a comprehensive undergraduate education, offering students a solid foundation in psychological theory, research methods, and practical applications. The principles of psychology are fundamental to various aspects of human endeavor, and the diverse career paths of psychology students reflect this breadth of opportunities. Whether pursuing a B.A. or B.S., students engage in a curriculum designed to explore the multifaceted aspects of psychology. Seniors typically culminate their education with an internship in their field of interest.

Degree Options

  • Bachelor of Arts Program: The B.A. degree offers a broad education in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. In addition to psychology courses, B.A. requirements include achieving competency in a foreign language, as well as additional credits in arts, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and other cultures. This flexibility often allows students to pursue a minor or certificate in fields such as Child Development, Diversity Studies, Trauma Studies, or Crime, Psychology, and Public Policy.
  • Bachelor of Science Program: The B.S. degree offers two options requiring additional courses beyond psychology in natural sciences, math, and business, depending on students' interests. The Science option is suitable for those interested in science or pursuing careers in allied health, nursing, neuroscience, or medicine. The Business option is ideal for students considering careers in human resources, marketing, or other aspects of business.

Participate in Research Studies

The psychology program at Penn State New Kensington is continually recruiting students to participate in location-based and online research studies. If you are a Penn State New Kensington student, you may earn extra credit in your PSYCH 100, and other psychology courses, in exchange for your participation.

Psychology majors will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty on faculty research projects, as well as conduct their own research studies. Many students present their research at national and international research conferences such as the Eastern Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association Annual Meetings.

The official course requirements for this degree for B.A. can be viewed in the online Undergraduate Bulletin under the suggested academic plan.

The official course requirements for this degree for B.S. can be viewed in the online Undergraduate Bulletin under the suggested academic plan.
