Local camera club, artists showcase works in New Kensington gallery

'Focus on Nature' exhibit featured at Penn State New Kensington throughout April 2019

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. —The New Kensington Camera Club (NKCC), along with artists from the New Kensington Arts Center, Allegheny Valley League of Artists, and the East Suburban Artists League, will showcase works of many mediums in Penn State New Kensington’s Art Gallery throughout April. The exhibit, “Focus on Nature” will run from April 1 to 27.

While the Camera Club is organizing the event, the collaborative nature of the show intends to provide viewers with a greater appreciation for all forms of art.

“The general consensus among our groups is to make people happy when they see art, to bring awareness of all the great, local talent in the area and to bring access to art to our youth,” said Tami Sudy, secretary and treasurer of the NKCC and organizer of the event.

Photography, paintings, drawings and hand-carved wood prints and pieces will be shown, and all artists were to consider nature and their interpretation of it in their submissions.

Sudy hopes the showcase will encourage attendees to appreciate art and have thoughtful discussion.

“We always look forward to the smiles and questions from viewers,” said Sudy. “Also, hearing their thoughts and explanations of what they see, how the art makes them feel, and finding out more about them and their artistic endeavors makes it even more beneficial for all.”

The NKCC was established in 2011 and has been dedicated to all aspects of photography and videography through education. The charitable organization holds various events such as its Eddie Adams Day and leads projects such as Cameras for Kids, which provides an aspiring high school-aged student with a camera. Classes and workshops related to the art of photography are also held throughout the year to provide awareness and accessibility to the art form in the local community.

In addition to the exhibit, which can be viewed in the gallery from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and noon to 5 p.m. weekends, members of the campus community, as well as the public, are invited to attend an Artist Reception and meet-and-greet from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 12 at the campus.

Penn State New Kensington’s gallery features monthly multimedia works of local, regional, national and international artists. All exhibits are free to the public.
