Artist Statement:

“For the Love of Birds” is an exhibition of photography, digital art and other mediums by local artist, Stefani Allegretti, that captures the interactions, personalities, characteristics, and beauty of a variety of species of birds. The majority of the bird species shown in this exhibition are native to North America and can be seen regionally in our backyards, at parks, or on farms. They include Cardinals, Blue Jays, Black-Capped Chickadees, Mourning Doves, Sparrows, Domestic Pigeons, House Finches, and others. As part of the natural world and landscape, birds are all around us. They have been the subject of poets, writers and more for hundreds of years and are often regarded as messengers from above. Author Izaak Walton is quoted saying, “Those little nimble musicians of the air, that warble forth their curious ditties, with which nature hath furnished them to the shame of art." Each bird is like a piece of art itself. Typically, most people pass by birds without a glance as their delightful chirping fades into the landscape of the white noise we hear each day. However, when we really pause and take a moment to “see” them and observe them, we may come to realize that they are fascinating creatures unique in every way. This exhibition aims to provide viewers with the opportunity to see the beauty of the natural world and discover an enhanced appreciation or awareness of these delightful creatures that live all around us. Allegretti is an award-wining artist and has exhibited her work in various juried group exhibitions throughout the United States including the Bird Museum of Vermont, the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art (SAMA), and others.
