All students in the Penn State New Kensington B.A. in Communications (COMCC) program are required to complete the senior internship requirement (COMM 495, 3 credits for 150 hours of internship experience). Students may also elect to conduct a second or extended (300 hours) internship, and may apply up to 6 credits of COMM 495 toward their degree requirements.
Communications students work with their faculty adviser, the internship coordinator and the resources provided by Career Services to identify and attain an internship experience appropriate to their post-graduate goals.
Internships may be in any position related to Communications and/or Journalism and must provide students with professional mentorship and a valuable workplace experience.
Penn State New Kensington Communications students have completed their internships in a wide variety of for-profit and non-profit organizations, including regional and national media organizations and public relations firms, health care organizations, professional sports teams, animal advocacy and social service organizations, and regionally-based manufacturing companies.
