All students in the Penn State New Kensington Honors Program will receive an honors scholarship of at least $2,000 a year, in addition to any other campus scholarship received, for each year they participate in the program at New Kensington Campus. The combined value of the honors and campus scholarships will be no less than $3,500 a year and could be more depending on the value of the campus scholarship received.
Honors students are given the chance to attend three cultural events in Pittsburgh each semester. These events include plays at the Pittsburgh Public Theater and other Pittsburgh theater companies, and concerts at the Pittsburgh Symphony. There is also a cultural field trip every August just before school starts. This year we toured the Carrie Blast Furnaces National Historical Landmark.
Campus Honors students are able to register before other students! This gives Honors students the ability to pick their classes and schedules without fear of sections closing or other conflicts.
The Honors Program can subsidize part of the costs for students going on campus trips or study abroad opportunities. Over the past ten years the Honors program has helped defray costs for students going to New York City, Stratford, Ontario, Washington, D.C., Spain, France, Italy, China, Greece, Ecuador, Peru, Ireland, Puerto Rico and Arizona. Subsidies are also available for students presenting their research at professional conferences.
