LGBTQA Student Resources

“Our campus has been referred to many as a family, and we feel very strongly in supporting, encouraging, and developing students to the best of their abilities both in and out of the classroom.” - Theresa Bonk, director of student affairs

LGBTQA Awareness Week

We host events in October focused on understanding and appreciation of the LGBTQA population, resources available to LGBTQA students, and discussions held for those who are interested.

Non-Profit and Human Rights Advocacy Fair

Every January, Penn State New Kensington hosts the Non-Profit and Human Rights Advocacy Fair, which provides internship and volunteer opportunities to students. The service focus areas of these organizations include advocacy and human rights, children & youth, community, disaster relief, crisis support, health and medicine, faith based, and homeless/housing organizations.

Unity Week

An annual event held every January, honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and focusing on unity both on campus and in the community, surrounding all underrepresented populations. Past themes include: “#watchyourisms” and the “All In” initiative.

The Coalition on Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity (CSOGI)

CSOGI is a newly created network of faculty and staff across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to build capacity through increased professional development and training, shared resources, and coordinated efforts. The purpose of the CSOGI is to leverage University resources to assist campuses in providing support for LGBTQ students through programming, education, and visibility.
