Penn State New Kensington students looking to augment their fields of study can learn to create and manage entrepreneurial companies with a new minor offered by the campus. Entrepreneurship and Innovation was added this semester to the roster of minors available to campus students. The new program provides the entrepreneurial behavior and innovative thinking skills that are critical to career success.
The never-ending debate of whether the Founding Fathers created a Christian or secular country will be the topic of a presentation at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Penn State New Kensington. Historian and scholar John Fea, professor of history and department chair at Messiah College, will deliver a public lecture based on his book, “Was America Founded as a Christian Nation?”
Each year, Penn State honors several members of its faculty and staff for the highest levels of academic excellence, outstanding leadership and meritorious service. The 2015 Faculty/Staff Award recipients — 33 outstanding University employees and one program — reach across campuses, colleges and administrative units and exemplify best practices and achievements among Penn Staters reflecting the University's mission of teaching, research and service.
Jane Charlton, professor of astronomy and astrophysics in the Eberly College of Science; Richard Doyle, professor of English in the College of the Liberal Arts; and Allen Larson, associate professor of communications at Penn State New Kensington, have received the Alumni/Student Award for Excellence in Teaching and have been named 2015 Penn State Teaching Fellows.
Penn State Laureate Susan Russell, associate professor of theater at the University Park campus, brings her "Dignity Tour" to Penn State New Kensington at noon Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the Forum Theatre. Russell’s talk, “Dignity: Changing Obstacles Into Opportunities,” will focus on who we can be in the 21st century and how we can get there together.
Through the Reinvention Fund, the Sustainability Institute’s internal grant program, Penn State has invested more than $875,000 in collaborative projects intended to improve and expand sustainability efforts across the institution. Faculty/staff teams have received $773,485, and an additional $102,884 was dedicated to support proposals submitted by student teams.
Lynette Kvasny, associate professor in the College of Information Sciences and Technology; Laura Rotunno, associate professor of English at Penn State Altoona, and Jennifer Wood, associate professor of communication arts and sciences at Penn State New Kensington, have received the Alumni/Student Award for Excellence in Teaching and have been named 2014 Penn State Teaching Fellows. The Penn State Alumni Association, in conjunction with undergraduate and graduate governing bodies, established the award in 1985. It honors distinguished teaching and provides encouragement and incentive for excellence in teaching. Recipients are expected to share their talents and expertise with others throughout the University system during the year following the award presentation.
