NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — Beginning at 6:55 p.m. EST (18:55 in military time, representing the year of Penn State's founding) on Nov. 26, until midnight on Nov. 27, members of the Penn State community are invited to make a gift to any area of the University as part of Penn State’s participation in #GivingTuesday, a national day to celebrate the power of giving back.
Penn State New Kensington is one of 42 colleges, campuses and units organizing a #GivingTuesday campaign.
The Penn State New Kensington Alumni Society challenges alumni and friends to raise $5,000 during #GivingTuesday, and the Alumni Society will provide a 2:1 match. For every dollar donated, the Alumni Society will match it with two dollars.
The goal of the society's challenge is to raise funds for the Penn State New Kensington Alumni Society Endowed Scholarship. All funds raised for the challenge will benefit the Penn State New Kensington Alumni Society Endowed Scholarship Fund.
The scholarship was established in 1992 and today is fully endowed, exceeding $134,000. In the fall of 2018, the Alumni Society was able to award a total of $8,000 to four deserving students. Since 1998, 72 students have benefited from more than $77,000 in scholarship funds from the Penn State New Kensington Alumni Society.
