NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — Penn State New Kensington has added eight new summer camps to its 2017 Kids in College program. The new camps meld creative thinking with hands-on activities and teamwork to enhance the educational experience of grade-school students.

The 29th annual Kids in College summer camps get underway with theater camp in June and go full throttle in July with STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) programming for students in first through 11th grade. The weeklong camps feature a variety of topics — including four Snapology camps: GameBots, Mega Machine Robotics, Animation Studio and Pokemania — where participants can learn about the world or develop new skills while having fun.

Making their debut on the Kids in College stage this summer are: Creative Writing; Mad Science: Fizz, Boom, Bang; Coding; Introduction to Acting; Ultimate Frisbee/Frisbee Golf; Dive into Divergent; Little Bits/Makedo Design Shop; and Invention Corner. Each class is designed for different grade levels.

Overall, the lineup features 34 camps, including an SAT prep course for high school students. For sports enthusiasts, four camps feature the fundamentals of fly fishing, soccer, bowling, and other indoor and outdoor activities.

All Kids in College classes are scheduled in July and are arranged by grade levels. There are five classes for first-graders, 13 classes for second- and third-graders, and 24 classes for fourth-graders. Eighteen courses are available for students in grades five to eight, and six courses are geared toward youths in grades nine to 11.

The camps run Monday to Thursday, July 10-13 or July 17-20. There are morning (9 to 11:30 a.m.) and afternoon (noon to 2:30 p.m.) sessions each day. All activities are conducted at the New Kensington campus. Classes require preregistration, and prices range from $95 to $145 per class.
