Incoming Penn State New Kensington students who received scholarships for fall 2017 were honored March 22 at the annual Spring Scholarship Breakfast at Oakmont Country Club. The social gave the new Penn Staters a chance to meet campus faculty, staff and students, and get a preview of college life. More than 200 freshmen earned awards for the upcoming academic year.
During a six-game swing through Florida, which opened the Penn State New Kensington softball season, Allison Nicklas hit for a .533 average, which is tops in the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC), and third in the nation in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
Besides educating traditional (18-24-year-olds) students, Penn State New Kensington is at the forefront of providing educational choices for adult learners, including credit and noncredit courses for individuals already in the workforce.
Prospective students and their families will have the opportunity to discover the benefits of attending Penn State New Kensington at an open house event on April 8. The Spring Open House program gives participants a chance to explore the University, meet with campus staff and faculty, and tour the campus with current students as hosts.
There won’t be singing candelabras or dancing dishes, but beauties and beasts ready to embark on careers in the workforce are invited to a four-course meal at Penn State New Kensington’s annual professional etiquette dinner on March 29, in the campus Conference Center.
The deadline for nominations for Penn State New Kensington’s Eric A. and Josephine S. Walker Award is March 22. The deadlines for Student Life awards — Penn State Spirit, Emerging Leader, Community Service and Who’s Who — is March 24.
After an unprecedented four-way tie for first-place, Freeport Area High School relied on superior numbers to capture the 2017 WEDIG Quiz Bowl championship March 9 in the Forum Theatre at Penn State New Kensington.
Penn State New Kensington encourages blood donations from the campus, alumni and local community at the semiannual blood drive, set for March 29 in the Art Gallery.
Performing artists Lady Caress and Jared Mahone will take the stage in Café 780 during the final weeks of the spring semester. Lady Caress, a spoken word artist, will bring her distinct style to the campus at 12:15 p.m. March 22. Mahone, a musical word artist, will perform his own songs at noon April 13. Both shows are free to the public.
A reception for high school artists of the Alle-Kiski Arts Consortium is slated from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 13, at Penn State New Kensington. The young artists will discuss their works in the campus Art Gallery. The event is free to the public.
